Hey You Pikachu! Review by Link584
"Hey You, Pikachu!, is a Nintendo 64 video game developed by Ambrella and published by Nintendo. It was first released in Japan on December 12, 1998, and in North America on November 6, 2000.
The game features voice-recognition technology used to talk to Pikachu, the star of the game. It is one of only two games that utilizes the N64's Voice Recognition Unit (VRU), a piece of hardware that can comprehend and analyze the human voice. However, It is the only game released in the United States to use the VRU. Similar technology has been subsequently built into the Nintendo DS and used in Gamecube games such as Mario Party 6. The player can move around and pick up items, in addition to speaking with Pikachu and can describe everything." - Wikipedia

Design
It is a Nintendo 64 game so the graphics obviously must be taken into consideration if playing it for the first time. It looks pretty good and all the Pokemon feel as believable as they can get and is an interesting and fun new experience in the Pokemon world! It takes time though to get Pikachu to fully listen to you, and sometimes does what he wants instead. Then again if you were told what to do in your free time all the time, wouldn’t you rebel too?
Gameplay / Controls
This game utilizes a microphone that attaches to your N64 controller. It is what allows you to “talk” to Pikachu. He knows over 200 words including all the different Pokemon he can interact with, and the tools you find and toys you can play with. Usually sentences might include, “Pikachu, pick up the Carrot.” And doesn’t get much more complex then that. And sense you follow Pikachu wherever he goes, forget about using the control stick. It’s all camera oriented and follows him.

Music
The music is okay, and just fit’s the environments, but not memorable at all. Nuff said.

Presentation
The game is old, and was put together during an interesting time. We have made music greater strides in technology and I bet a much better game could be created today easily. The game takes a lot of patience and many hours into it that you might not be able to last. It is kid oriented though so a child might easily find this fun, or if the kid has a short attention span then forget about it. It’s an okay game, but seeing it collect dust on the shelf might easily be as entertaining most days.
