Special Edition Games
Hi there, today I would like to discuss why special editions of video games is a good and bad idea. Collectibles and memorabilia have been around for a very very long time, and to video games is ever-growing market and is a huge market, which is why these deals are very important. I will only touch base on so much of the topic in this particular article.
It seems like with every major release of some big game that comes out there also is a limited edition and possibly an extra limited edition which goes extremely high sometimes up to as high as $150. I feel that these are sometimes overpriced and just plain old not worth it unless it is something related to the Zelda or Mario something that's been around for a long time and already has a ton of memorabilia out there on the market making this a very valuable and collectible piece of gaming history. The new Zelda game coming out on the week which comes with a gold Wii mote is not very Zelda related, except that the series has a history of making gold cartridges and I do not seem to really care for this gold Wiimote. I want it though because Zelda collections are out there including my own are growing and it is very essential in key part of our collection and will cost more down the road. Sadly this is just the way collectibles sometimes work, to get a hit or miss type of product and if you have a huge collection then as a collector you don't want to miss out on it.
Now let's take a game such as resident evil five and the items they came out with that and its collectors edition. The items they came out with that included things such as a little medallion in the shape of Africa, a messenger bag, and a couple other little items. Now normally I would say that a package deal like this is not worth it and at the same time it is for me. I was able to use the messenger bag and bring it to my college classes and worked really well as a practical use and everyone complimented it.
Now take the action figure that came with it. It was very small and it was of okay quality but it was not nearly the quality of the statue set that came with some games such as Halo and the new Batman game that's coming out. The action figure has no place in my room that would look good with the other items that were given to me from various promotions of other games, but that doesn't matter because at the same time resident evil is a franchise so you can go with a resident evil collection. Except there is one problem with that. A lot of the collectible resident evil items are very very expensive and were usually only given out to dealers or very special events so having a resident evil collection is very very unlikely. To get these items you'll had to have spent a little bit extra money which I believe which was about $20 American and the bag alone I believe was worth it for that much and you do get a LOT of stuff, so in this case getting the collectors edition worked out. You see it doesn't always work out though as Batman Arkham Asylum came out with the special edition they came out with the boomerang that he uses and it was a poor quality item. Do a Google search and you will find the many cries of angry gamers on that one alone.

I could go on and on with cases where things such as these work and do not work but I think the bottom line is if you come out with a special edition of something and maybe some in game material for a few extra dollars would be worth it, and if you're going to come out with something such as an action figure you might as well turn into something that looks really good, such as a statue. Then charge an extra $50, because that would be a prominent feature in any gamers room automatically. Take the Halo reach statue for example. I really do not care much about Halo series, but the statue looked really really nice and I would love to have that for myself!
If you have a really big franchise series such as Zelda, Mario, or Halo, I believe you should come out with a really nice limited-edition item for those of us who have supported the series for years and already have wonderful collections that would love to add something of real value rather than just some colored controller or cheap figurine.
