The Mushroom Kingdom
The idea of visiting the Mushroom Kingdom has always been a fascinating idea to me. Go to the castle of Princess Toadstool and eat some delicious cake with the Mario gang (Toad and Yoshi included of coarse) sounds like a fun idea at first, but then I realized something. The Mushroom Kingdom is a horrible place to live and visiting would possibly lead to your death.
In any Mario game that actually contains the magical kingdom of gaming adventures, it seems to be super populated with evil goombas, koopas, haunted houses of boos, wigglers, piranha plants, and much more! You can’t go to a nearby forest without scary killer monsters of some sort. Can’t go for a walk on local bridges over rivers without flying fish coming at you. You also can’t visit the mountains due to dinosaurs of some sort that breath fire at you! By now I hope you can see why this is a terrible place to visit, let alone live in.
Princess Peach gets to sit in her castle (when she’s not captured) and has her loyal servants of mushroom people and has no real trained guards protecting her. If the Princess of the land doesn’t even have proper protection, then I am sure you can forget about any possible police force existing. In Paper Mario at least we saw a little more growth and how there are nearby shops, but no more then a couple steps outside the little town it’s dangerous as can be! My question is, how big is the Mushroom Kingdom really, and how big is its population? Now that is a very interesting question to ponder.
Without going into much more detail or concern over a fictional universe that really isn’t that important, it brings me to enough curiosity though to wonder if maybe one day we can have a real 3D Mario game that shows the whole kingdom in it’s true glory! I think it is time we see how big the royalty of the Princess reaches, and visit the glorious kingdom that is the legendary place of plumbers and Yoshis and see where the danger truly begins outside the castle‘s town. I think seeing a game that really includes a bigger and better look at this world would be welcomed, even if it just served as a hub to other worlds or something somehow. In Zelda: Twilight Princess we got to see a somewhat bigger Hyrule Castle area, I think now would be a great time for this to happen in Mario’s universe as well.
