Video Game Federal Grants
Recently video games and the opportunity to receive federal grants has become both celebration and disgusting. Video gamers all around are happy to see their beloved games be officially recognized as a source of art and education, as that would be the purpose of the government spending. Others don't seem to be rejoicing though. There are other people who find video games do not deserve such money and it is a waste.
The above clip has been seen in the gaming community as, "typical fox news" "unfair and bias" "the bald guy sucks" and so on. I hardly see any comments that even touch on the subject of this clip's depth, which I believe is very crucial thing. Personally I have no problem with fox news typically, but when it comes to video games they never get it right. So stop slamming the station entirely, and start slamming the facts into the minds of those who might believe this video and others. Analyzing this clip will be a good step towards understanding the subject as a whole.
Clearly all of the violent Call of Duty shots and the opening line of, "Should video game Call of Duty get federal funding" is a very uneducated start. Remember though, we are not debating this video, but the subject itself and educating others. This is where the problem starts, gamers are too busy pissing away their time yelling on YouTube clips and in the fray actually saying the WRONG THINGS. Do not get distracted here, the video is upsetting but here is the point I am trying to make. Ignore all the clearly bias and uneducated things the bald man is saying. That's not important. What is important is that by the end of the video a lot of people are making dumb and stupid remarks, and following what others are saying. We all know video games are considered art. Are movies art? Yes. Is Music art? Yes. Is painting art? Yes. Are all movies art? No. Is all music art? No. are all paintings art? No. This logic also applies to video games. While a video GAME is just that, a GAME, they have evolved to a point where it can be more then that. Same with movies, they are not just entertainment, they are enlightening, they can make you feel moved, and so on. So with that said, let's move onto the next part.
The money would not go towards any big developers such as the creators of Call of Duty. It would go only to independent makers, and only towards artistic or educational games. I am not sure how I feel about using money on "artistic" games as I don't see where the game would be used after it is made. An educational game can be used in the classroom. I support that concept 100%, as with more kids are into gaming these days and making learning fun is important, this is the perfect example of something I can support. Even in hard economic times that can be beneficial and will help kids get their grades up higher. The bald man does have a point though, and no one seems to see it. Should we really be spending money on this in a time of economic crisis? Probably not, because based on what the geek man said, it doesn't sound like it will create any jobs, just "inspire them" but then again he is not a professional on the matter. Neither one of them are! So based on this clip alone we do not get all the facts, and before even commenting on how bad the video is and bashing the bald guy, the whole video itself should be disregarded as it is not long enough, and does not feature enough educated guests on the show. This whole clip should just be forgotten and thrown away as both sides fail on their own points!
With all this said, the clip itself is another story entirely from the point of this article. The idea of spending money on this idea might want to be put on hold if it doesn't bring any new jobs are accomplish a whole lot at this time. I think it should be done at some point though as educational games are very important. In fact I have a couple fun learning games on my Nintendo Entertainment System and some old Windows 95 teaching games growing up. I support them definitely, but only if we can afford to at the time. That is the big issue in my book, and one almost everyone forgot to talk about, and just letting our anger over a 4 minute segment just piss us off, and ruining our name as gamers just a little bit more each day. Now that is a shame, as our gamer name almost never gets to shine. Think next time before commenting on such matters, or don't comment at all. Don't blame Fox news or any other news channel, instead stop and analyze like I did first. Then go out there and properly educate people on the matter.
