World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck by Link584
Does this classic Disney adventure stand up the their reputation of the era? A 1992 Sega title with a mouse and a duck. Already sounds like an interesting game. Trust me on this one, but it is very, very, interesting at the very least.
Story
“Whilst preparing for a magical act, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck discover a magical box. However, this turns out to belong to an evil magician to sends Mickey and Donald to a magical world. Mickey and Donald must now work together in order to find a way back home.- Wikipedia. As you can see it’s a straight forward and simple plot, which allows us to pretty much get right to the gameplay, and can lead us anywhere. Now that is a perfect way to start!

Design
This is a classic Disney video game. It was released in 1992, so don’t be so quick to judge it. The sprites I feel are very unique to this game. It is very hard for me to explain, but the pictures will hopefully help you get an idea. The backgrounds almost feel part of the foreground at times and this can be a problem though, but one I feel is a good problem. For example, take a game such as Mario Bros 3. The clouds that you can walk on in that game are clearly different from the ones in the background. Well there is actually a whole cloud section of this game where you can walk and jump around on them. Well the background clouds throw you off from time to time, making you have to be very careful and pay attention to what you’re doing. It adds a level of difficulty that feels fun and not cheap. Also, the effects in this game are wonderful. From the way enemies die, to how they portray gelatin (yes, the food) is really nice to look at.
Gameplay / Controls
From using your magic cloth, to running and jumping, you don’t really think about it much. It’s very similar to other fun games where after you get used to the quick and easy basic controls, you just don’t even think about it anymore! Without a lot of buttons to learn, you can dive right in and have fun right away. This game truly excels with 2 players though, and thankfully, does add some variations to how you tackle each place. Playing with another person is a great feeling and this game will put your teamwork to the test!

Music
The music is just kind of there. If you play with a friend you are better off, otherwise you might get a little bored of it from time to time. It’s not bad by any means, and fit’s the levels pretty well, but it gets stale a little quickly.

Presentation
This game was made way back in 1992, but it’s presentation has held up very well! Between nice effects, fun level design, and a great co-op, I am sure you would agree too. The co-op though is what really makes this game shine, and you won’t feel the magic as much on your own, but it is still pretty magical. If you haven’t played it yet, I suggest finding a copy so you can experience what I mean to properly look at it.

Conclusion
The paragraph above me really says it all. It’s a great game and worth playing. Co-op though is really where it’s at though. I mean you get to play as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in classic form, going on an epic journey, with fun level designs, lots of silly laughs with your friend on the couch together, doing a fun co-op game that a lot of games today don’t offer. Pick up and play is a great thing about this, and I recommend it dearly. Also, there is no gore or any strong violence to distract you. I give this game a 4 out of 5, with co-op in mind.
